I will introduce you to the notion of "space and exchange". First, I will give a definition. The world around us is characterized by the notion "Spaces and exchanges". In fact, people have always conquered new lands and there are cultural, economic and human interactions As we will see today to the following question: does the American dream really exist? I will try to answer this question with 2 documents "Growth of nation" and "Leaving for a new world".   First This concept was invented by James Truslow Adams in 1931. It is the idea that everyone can succeed in the United States as that person is courageous, hardworking and determined. No matter where he has become, he can become rich and successful. This has resulted in a significant wave of immigration during the 20th century. 

The image "Leaving for a new world" shows a multitude of migrants in a ship in front of ELLIS YLAND and they are very happy, they have the smile and the fists lifted because they left the famine or the war of their countries and come to find refuge in the United States, dream country, where peace reigns and where they think to find a job, to raise their children appropriately and to live in serenity.   They think they can start a new life in good conditions. Many people in the 20th century wanted to join the United States because for them, it is a real Eldorado, it is the American dream and the migrants on this image are very happy to live this American dream.

 In contradistinction to this image, the text "growth of a nation" reflects the true situation of migrants in the United States, which is not as good as we think. 

 First of all, migrants are examined. Migrants with tuberculosis, measles, fungi are sent back to their countries. This has been the case for many of them. Then for those who are accepted, they are relegated to housing areas that only include migrants, so they have great difficulty integrating into American society and learning the language. Moreover, it is the immigrants who built the American cities. They sacrificed their lives to build the country (dams, roads and other infrastructure) and it was a very difficult job. Those who thought that they had good jobs to thrive, therefore find themselves with difficult jobs and poor pay, so life for them is a nightmare. They so realize that the American dream is a fraud.  

To conclude, the American dream seems to be an illusion, indeed, the coveted Eldorado is source of great inequalities between migrants and Americans, they struggle to integrate and prosper. Only this American dream is not an illusion, migrants find themselves in better situations than in their former countries and flourish more, so they do not live perfectly but better than before.
