Nessie’s tale
I arrive now in the North of Scotland, on the edge of the Loch Ness, the most famous Scottish lake in the world. It’s a place full of History and mythes of all kinds permeate this chilled stretch of water. The setting is otherworldly, indeed, the lake surrounded by leafy hills and fields gives to this place a typical feeling that you can’t find anywhere else. Everything is reminding you the tremendous Celtic integration of the area, from the shady sky to the gift shops.
Naturally, it’s impossible for me to be here and to omit the worldwide known legend of ‘’Nessie’’. It began in 565 AD when a farmer would have been eaten up by an aquatic monster. Afterwards, Saint Columba, an Irish missionary in evangelization mission at the time, would have pushed the monster away. The time runs it course and the tale will have persisted until 1934, when Robert Kenneth Wilson, a London surgeon, took THE picture of ‘’Nessie’’ which made the ‘’Daily Mail’’ headlines and that we all seen, at least, once. Then, in the 60s the ‘’Loch Ness Phenomena Investigation Bureau’’ (LNPIB) opened his doors in order to investigate and draw up an inventory of all the apparitions of the monster. Unfortunately it seems that the Wilson’s picture was a hoax and that ‘’Nessie’’ is no more than the biggest myth of Scotland, but, you never know…
The question is no longer ''does Nessie exist?'', but ''why is it still so much popular ?''.
