Hello everyone! I am here today to talk about a subject that is not well addressed in our society. indeed I will talk about autism spectrum disorder.

Even today, too many people have a misrepresentation of autism that does not correspond to reality and misconceptions continue to spread. First of all, I will begin by giving you the definition of autism:

The spectrum of autism is a complex condition currently seen as an early neurodevelopmental disorder that usually lasts a lifetime, and manifests itself in particularities of communication and social interactions, as well as so-called restricted and repetitive interests and behaviours that also include sensory specificities.

In France, one in a hundred people has autism. We are talking about autism spectrum disorders because there are several forms of autism. One thing is certain, these neurodevelopmental disorders begin before the age of 3, often due to genetic factors, and evolve throughout life.

we all sometimes convey, without even realizing it, preconceived ideas. and our attitudes towards this disability that we know so little about but fear probably do so much more harm than the disorders themselves to these people.

here are some prejudices and preconceived ideas about autism:

. "they are capricious and violent": autistic people may react badly to an unexpected event, but that does not mean they are violent.

"they don't want to communicate": autistic people have difficulty looking into each other's eyes because they don't see the need to make eye contact, even if they pay attention to others.

"they are in their bubble": people with autism often focus on areas of limited interest so that they do not have to integrate too much information.

"You can't touch them": autistic people are hypersensitive, their sensory perceptions are different from ours. From the outset, life can quickly take on the appearance of aggression as there are so many stimuli.

"they are geniuses": not all people with ASDs have high IQ, but some may develop special skills or store important knowledge, especially about the limited interests that hold their attention.

"they do not feel pain": if autistic people do not express pain in the same way as others, they feel it as strongly as others. it is therefore necessary to remain alert and learn to decipher, their changes in attitudes to help them if they need it.

some also tend to think that people with autism are not able to do something in their lives. However, this is totally false. For example, on August 28th, one thousand nine hundred and forty-seven in Boston, a baby was born unlike any other: Mary Temple Grandin. she doesn't smile, she doesn't laugh and screams when you want to take her in your arms. instead of playing lego she pisses on the floor, instead of playing cards she eats them. very often, she starts screaming, banging her head' to break everything. No one understands what she's thinking, but Temple is over three years old and she still doesn't talk. So her mom takes her to see a neurologist. The doctor subjected her to a whole battery of tests, and concluded that this little girl seemed trapped in the autism of Greek auto, "herself".
