LELE Book – Dear John NICHOLAS SPARKS
- Dear John is a book written by Nicholas Sparks.
It's about a boy, John, that lives in North Carolina. After high school John enlistes in the army. While home on a leave, John meets Savannah who is in North Carolina doing mission work. Their attraction is mutual and they quickly fall in love. John has to leave two weeks after they met to go back to the army. Savannah agreed that she would wait for him to finish his tour of duty. They write letters to eachother and picked up where they left off when he comes back on another leave.
However they start to drift apart when 9-11 (The September 11 attacks) occurs and John is forced to re-enlist in the army. They begin to grow apart and one day Savannah sends him a letter that says she is in love with someone else. John was heartbroken and stops communicating with her.
A little while later, John's father died and left John all the coins from his coin collection that is worth a lot of money. While John is home for his fathers funeral, he decides to go visit Savannah where he is surprised to learn of her life events following her marriage to another man. It was obvious to John, Savannah, and even her new husband, that Savannah still had love for John.
- I love this story as this is a story of unconditional love. I can't tell you why I really love this book because I can't tell you the end. I would definitely recommend this book to others because this story is not the typicakl love story that we know and also the book is very easy to read.
- I can link this book to the LELE theme:
-Meeting love and friendship: because we can see many relations on this book, not only the love between Savannah ans John but also a friendship between John and her childhood best friens Tom. We can also mention the realtion between John and his father even if she's complicated
-Characters and their transformation: because we can see an evolution of John and his feelings but also a change of situation because nothing ends as we might think.
-The writer in his time: because Sparks includes The September 11 attacks on his novel.
-Travels, journeys and exile: because John is always leaving for the military.
