Arthur Guinness (1725-1803) is an Irishman who was the origin of the Guinness brewery. Brilliant businessman, and considered as the largest brewer of Ireland, he was during his life at the head of a financial empire that still continues today, and which profoundly affected the Irish culture and the Irish national identity .
Born on September 24 th, 1725 in Celbridge Ireland Arthur Guinness saw his childhood in a family rather easily, where his father was the steward of the land on behalf of the Archbishop of Cashel. He soon dream of founding his own company, and decided, at the age of 34, to create its own brewery, and so bought a small disused brewery in Dublin, St James Gate.
Its acquisition cost is far from exorbitant: it manages to negotiate a lease of 9,000 years with an annual rent of £ 45 ... Never seen before! Therefore, Arthur bought quantity of copper vats, stills, and other materials needed to create its own beer. He then recruited a few employees, and aimed to create a stout, an Irish dark beer.
After several attempts and tests, the young man eventually lead to a satisfactory result, he named his own name: "the Guinness Beer". Success was therefore for the appointment, and Guinness distributed its barrels throughout Ireland and exported its beer for the first time in England in 1769.
Over the years, Arthur Guinness beer is growing more and more, always producing more tons, and facing an exponential demand ... The Irish brewer is enriched rapidly, and eventually export worldwide this beer “brunette” who made so many emulates.
Yet Arthur Guinness died Jan. 23, 1803, leaving his family an unprecedented legacy that still continues today ... In the XXI century, Guinness became an old economic empire 250 years of existence, the symbol of a whole country .
The Guinness is not only a beverage consumed daily by the Irish, but it has also become a national symbol, and cultural.
