MARVEL COMICS:

1. Introduction and history of Marvel Comics :

Marvel Comics is one of the principals publishing houses of comic books in the World. The company was created in 1939 by Martin Goodman. Marvel was first named Timely Comics from 1939 to 1952, then Atlas Comics from 1952 to 1989 and Marvel Comics since 1989. The company owns famous heroes like Spider-Man, X-Men, The fantastic four, Thor Captain America and many others. All this characters are living in the same World: The Marvel Universe.

In 1939, after its creation, the publishing house wasn’t very popular. It begins to become famous with the birth of Captain America in 1940. The sales of Timely continue to grow up to more than 1 million. The success of the heroes allowed to diffuse an anti-Nazi propaganda to the American population due to the comics.

After the war in the 50’s, the super-heroes comics weren’t popular anymore. To make his business survive Goodman decided with his nephew Stan Lee to only publish in fields like westerns, war and romance.

In 1961, begins, the gold age of super-heroes comics. After having seen that a publication of his rival DC comics know a big success, Goodman asks to Stan Lee to imagine new heroes. So, with the help of Jack Kirby who is a talented drawer, he create The Fantastic Four in 1961, Hulk, Thor and Spider-Man in 1962 and the X-Men and The Avengers in 1963.

All of these creations are a success allowing Marvel to become the first publishing house of comics ahead DC Comics.

Finally the company was purchased by Disney in 2009 for 4 billion dollars.

1. The most famous heroes :

1. Wolverine :

ggggggBorn with super-human senses and the power to heal from almost any wound, Wolverine was captured by a secret Canadian organization and given an unbreakable skeleton and claws. Treated like an animal, it took years for him to control himself.

1. Gambit :

His real name is Remy Lebeau. Abandoned due to his red eyes, he was kidnapped from his maternity by a guild of thieves who taught him the ways of thievery. After having grown he decided to marry with the assassin’s guild leader’s daughter called Bella to calm down the war between the thief’s and the assassin’s guild. But on the wedding day, Julien who was the brother of Bella decided to challenge Gambit in duel because he disagreed with the marriage. Gambit killed him during a self-defense duel and was banished from New-Orleans.

After that he wandered the world to improve his skills as a master thief, helped by his mutant skills. Gambit can charge objects with explosive energy by touching them, that’s why he’s fighting with cards and a battle stick.

During his trip he met the scientist Mr. Sinister who operated the Gambit’s brain to increase his power.

After the operation, Gambit was able to charge object just by looking at them and could manipulate the Time during a short time-lapse.

He continued to travel until he met Storm, a member of X-Men who made Gambit joining the X-Men.
