Banksy
Banksy is an artist whose identity remains mysterious because he cultivates his anonymity.
We don’t know this face, but he was born in 1974 (One thousand nine hundred seventy four) in Bristol, he is 42 years old.
He do his works on the walls of cities, so addressing a wide public by stencils, spray paint and brusches.
With his works Banksy want give a message, he denounce the injustices, the war, the famine, the capitalism …
The Armoured Dove
This graffiti was painted on a wall of Bethléem in 2005.
The wall of Bethléem is dividing wall between Israel and Palestine.
This wall marks the place where more than 40 (fourty) people where killed during the first Intifada.
For this paint Banksy use stencils und spray paint.
- Description
It is the white dove with an olive branch in the beak which means the peace. But she has a bulletproof jacket with a target on the heart. And on the wall we can see bullet hole.
2) Interpretation
It means that the peace is in danger because people want to destroy the peace. And because the peace is frail, Banksy dresses him in a military uniform so that she can survive the war.
This peace symbol is between life and death.
- Context
In 2005, near the city of Bethlehem, Banksy decide to paint on the dividing wall between Israel and Palestine.
This wall 700(Seven hundred) and seventy km long in summer built in 2002 by the State of Israel to prevent any attempts of terrorist intrusions on Israël.
Banksy paint on this wall because he marks the place where fourty people are killing during the first Intifada.
The first Intifada, called « War of Stones » is a war between Palestinians and Israëli, she begin the 9th December 1987 (one thousand nine hundred eighty seven).
Conclusion
The dove is only a symbol, she will not stop the bullet.
The intervetions of Banksy aggraving the look we concern this wall. The works of Banksy address the Palestinians and the Israeli which undergo the presence of this wall. And he proposes an alternative in the physical violence.
