Today I will present you the “Non violent Sculpture”. This sculpture was made by Carl Fredick Reuterward in 1985. The original is exposed in Malmo in Sweden. The artist was friends with John Lennon who was shot dead outside his home. The two friends shared their commitments against violence, and promoted the ideal of universal and lasting peace. So after his death, Carl decided to create a piece of art to stop all of this violence with guns. The Non-Violence is a bronze sculpture of an oversize Colt Python.357 Magnum revolver with is muzzle tied in a knot. It’s a large caliber, but rendered harmless by the artist thanks to its firmly knotted barrel, no more deadly bullets will be able to escape from the barrel. In my opinion, the choice of the artist to make this sculpture was amazing, thanks to him and the success of this, all of the world can consider the important violence that exist in the USA. This sculpture has been so successful that there are currently 31 copies of the sculpture around the world, which are located in specific place. We can see one of this in the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York made three years after the first. We can also see one of the copies in France, at the Caen memorial I choose this sculpture because that show art can have power in the world, in fact this piece of art began in 1993 the symbol of the Non-Violence Project a nonprofit organization that promotes social change through violence-prevention education programs.
