In today's world, we can say that world trade, in its current organization, is unfair and dysfunctional. The affected countries are obviously the most vulnerable... This is why fair trade has developed. It can be defined as an alternative way to consume., a global organization working to secure a better deal for producers and workers. So we may wonder here, if fair trade can be regarded as a progress ?
To begin, on the one hand, The development of trading using Fair Trade principles is principaly economic, social but also environmental. First, it allows an excellent wage system in place. Indeed, many cooperatives offer remarkably higher wages for workers than what the general market supports on a local basis. There is a guaranteed minimum payment. But we can also notice a progress in Humane working conditions which are safe and ethical. Indeed, the fair trade ensures respect for the working conditions of employees and producers by fighting against slavery, child labor and guaranteeing equity between the sexes. The two points of emphasis are principaly gender and religious discrimination.
What is more, fair trade develops organic techniques, creating a sustainable growing pattern that the environment is able to support year after year. Fair trade products often come from organic farming. One of the criteria of this project is to promote the ecological use of local raw materials and the economic management of natural resources.
Finally, The most significant innovation is that,today, multiple products are available: the Fair Trade model is grown to encompass most goods that are produced in the world today.
