Final task chapter 2 “From a Flop to the Top”
Debate: “Must failure be part of a successful career?”
In favor of failure:
• First of all, I’d like to say that in order to be successful, you will fail at least once because you have to take risks in life otherwise you might not live at all.
Moreover, before becoming successful, the novel “Harry Potter” by J.K Rowling was rejected by 12 publishing houses before Bloomsbury accepted it.
•What I’m trying to say is that failure helps to get rid of the inessential and makes you stop pretending, it allows you to be yourself. It also builds your strength and your character.
•Even though, Abraham Lincoln went through big failures and tragic event, he succeeded multiple times and became president of the USA (in 1960).
• J.K Rowling failed on an epic scale. Yet, she became the most successful writer in the world
•To cut a long story short, even if you fail, you must get up and struggle until you make it. You mustn’t give up.
•Failure keeps you humble, because if you’ve only succeeded in your life, you can become a bit to proud of yourself and have a big ego.
•You learn from your failures, failure allows you to examine what worked or what didn’t work. It allows you to innovate and try another thing to execute something the next time.
•Failure can teach resilience, which means to recover from setbacks quickly and effectively. It is important a career because failure is a common part of growing/professional growth.
Against the necessity of failure:
•The first point I’d like to raise is that you don’t need to fail in order to succeed, you can succeed without it.
J.K Rowling failed then succeeded, yet her story is “isolated”. There isn’t a lot of people who hit the rock bottom and manage to become successful.
•Furthermore, some celebrities didn’t have any major failures and managed to become successful, like Mozart or Bill gates
•We tend to value failure as necessary step towards success, and we consider taking risks as something trivial that can’t have disastrous consequences.
Therefore, we’re prepared to imitate them. But they were very lucky to succeed after their big failures.
•Failure can be harmful: if you have a family or if you’re the broad winner, you’ll have to be careful with the risks you take to make sure you don’t lose everything.
•When you have failed several times, it can have consequences on your mental health and your physical state. For example, when you have failed several times and you know this is your final attempt, you might feel anxious, demotivated, you also might have heart fluttering, palpitations and agitation just to think about it.
Moreover, big or repeated failures can lead to depression.
•Failure isn’t the road to success, it’s practice. People who succeed don’t fail repeatedly. According to a study, you learn more from success than from failure.
•In short, failure isn’t a necessary step on the way of success.
