Ladies and gentlemen,

Today, I stand before you to address a crucial issue that often hides in the shadows of discussions about racism: discrimination against Asians. It's a topic that deserves our attention, yet it's frequently overlooked or minimized compared to the spotlight on racism against Black individuals.

It's essential to acknowledge that racism against any group is intolerable. However, the discrimination faced by Asians is often trivialized, downplayed, or even dismissed. We witness countless incidents where stereotypes, mockery, and even violence against Asians are brushed off as insignificant or merely jokes.

The recent rise in hate crimes and xenophobic acts against Asians, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, has shed light on this pervasive issue. Tragically, many of these acts have been met with silence or insufficient acknowledgment from society and the media.

While the fight against racism towards the Black community has seen incredible advocacy and support, the same level of solidarity and defense is often lacking when it comes to the discrimination faced by Asians. It’s time to recognize and confront this double standard in our societal response to racism.

Allow me to highlight the courage and determination of individuals like Yuri Kochiyama, a prominent Asian American activist. Kochiyama tirelessly fought for civil rights, standing alongside Black leaders like Malcolm X and advocating for various marginalized communities.

Let's not forget the tragic Atlanta spa shootings, where several Asian women were among the victims. This horrifying event was a stark reminder of the urgent need to address and denounce the bigotry and violence targeting Asians.

We must stand together in unity against all forms of racism. It's imperative to amplify the voices of those who suffer discrimination, regardless of their background. Each one of us has a responsibility to speak out against injustice and promote equality for all.

In conclusion, let's honor the memory of those who have fought for equality, like Yuri Kochiyama, by continuing their legacy. Let's pledge to be allies in the fight against racism towards Asians and all marginalized communities. Together, through our collective actions and unwavering support, we can build a world where every individual is valued, respected, and treated with dignity.

Thank you.
