Dear Mr Morrison,
I’m writing to you today because of the situation in Australia, in New South Wales especially. The crisis we are facing need to be fought, action have to be taken. My name is Anaëlle and I’m a WWF volunteer, an activist. The massive bushfires aren’t usual and have important consequences on the wildlife but also on people living around these places.
Are you aware that in summer 2019-2020, 33 people died in Australia because of the fire and around 800 million animals only in NSW? There have been consequences for everyone not only people directly impacted. As an exemple the air quality had highly decreased and there have also been big environmental changes in rainfalls or winds. There have been bushfires in Australia for centuries but never that massive and out of control. This is because of climate change.
There are multiples causes but the main ones are the inaction of the Australian’s government and their bad decision to face climate change: ignoring it. But global warming is real, we need to fight it and energy providers such as coal station are not helping.
Australia is one of the worst country in terms of decision for the climate in the G20 but it can and need to change. We are expecting you and the government to start by admitting your errors and the reality of climate change. Then to fight it, I am asking you to take decision to try to reduce Australia’s emission of greenhouse gases starting by replace coal-stations by other environmental-friendly energy alternatives. There are so many things that could be done to improve the climate. Focusing on the bushfires, to prevent them, cultural burning could be used it is an Aboriginal practice and will help to reduce the threat of massive wildfire in the dry season. It also have other positive effects like regeneration of certain plants or more productive landscapes for agriculture.
I thank you, Mr the Prime Minister for reading my letter and I hope my voice will be heard and help to take action for the climate.
Yours faithfully,
...
