ASSIGNMENT
Think about the people in your life who have modeled leadership for you.
Who among them was your most influential leadership role model?
Please select someone you know personally rather than a famous or historical person (unless you personally know that person).
Describe what the person makes him or her your most influential leadership role model?
In what ways did this person exemplify The Five Practices?
Be as specific as you can.
WHO DID WE CHOOSE?
We have decided to talk about a man who represents a good leader. The most influential leadership role model that we chose is Marc ABITBOL, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Luneau Technology, company in which is currently working Yasmina.
His story:
During the World War II, his grandparents emigrated to Morocco to escape to Hitler's dictatorship. A few years later his parents came to settle in Paris, city where Marc was born. He studied in France and continued his doctorate in Israel. Today, he has a doctorate in optical systems and has founded his own company in 1993, named Visionix in Jerusalem.
He is the author of about thirty scientific publications and the owner of about twenty patents in the electro-optical field.
Since the turnover of his business is increasing, it enables him in a short time to buy three other companies in the same area of expertise (optical and ophtalmological devices). Today, he manages more than 300 employees all over the world.
How has he done?
He introduces every day a new kind of management in his companies. He has many values that he wants to share with his employees and thus build a real team spirit.
We will now describe in which ways Yasmina’s boss exemplifies the 5 Practices of Leadership.
THE FIVE PRACTICES FOR LEADERSHIP
First practice: “Model the way”
He identified the values of his company and shared them with his employees. His idea of a company passed through three words: experience, innovation and service. He established those values to bring his company, his employees to the right direction.
Experience: He develops his team with experienced employees. He manages it to have experienced people who are able to transmit and implement the values and their how-know.
Innovation: To develop his company and his products, he invested on Research & Development (actually 13% of the staff). The goal is to search how to improve the product and the use. The other way of innovation is the Human Resources management: the politics of recruitment conduct to hire new employees with others ideas, others visions.
Service: The best way to manage the customer satisfaction is the service. From A to Z, the customer is supported by the sale representative. To have only one interlocutor allows establishing a preferential relation. The final purpose to this is to bring solutions (products, trainings) and technical supports to the customer.
Second practice: “Inspire a shared vision”
This Leadership has envisioned for the future by imagining exciting and ennobling possibilities. We want to illustrate his practice with an example:
There was a project for a commercialization of a new product. He shared this new challenge with this team and asked their opinion.
The Team explained and shared their ideas. The Leader asked what the project inspires them. He takes his idea and answered expectations of them.
He listened to them and took decision, orientation with them in order to go to the same decision. So they shared a common vision. It was easier to launch the project.
Third practise : “Challenge the process”
To challenge the process means to search for opportunities by seizing the initiative and by looking outward for innovative ways to improve. According to us, Luneau Technology, thanks
