Except three powers, political, economic and media, do there exist other powers? it will fast occur the religious power. However, the religion constitutes a natural power different from that of the political power? The answer is clearly negative in many countries, where religion and politics are closely involved, whether they are Muslim countries applying the sharia ( Koranic law) or occidental countries as the United States where the religion is present to on bank notes.

In strongly laic countries as France, what is the place of the religion? She is naturally of use as guide to those of her believers who well want to follow the rulers which she promulgates, what confers it certain power; but this power is freely accepted and can be refused by whoever, at any time, and it without having to justify itself. These powers are of more subordinate to the legislation, no religious ruler being officially authorized to contradict the law.

However, nothing forbids the politics to have religious beliefs, and nothing forbids them to try to transpose them into the political level. Catholics can oppose to laws condemned by Vatican (contraception, abortion, pacs), but this opposition can be presented only as an opinion in the same way as others, a religious condemnation not establishing an argument stronger than an other one.

As any institution, the religious institution has a power which, just like any power aims naturally towards the abuse of power since no force of opposition exists to limit it and frame the possible overflowing. Everybody has in memory the famous case of Galilee in XVII ° century, condemned for having asserted that the Earth turned around the Sun and thus was not the geographical center of the world; either resistances which were made with regard to the works of Darwin when this one in XIX ° century established the animal filiations of the man

The religion has a power which becomes sometimes excessive, this power is indeed often used as excuse by telling to act in the name of a strength superior. The politics and the religion are sometimes closely linked, and several centuries ago the populations more believe on the religion than on the government; we could thus see a kind of agreement between both so allowing the state a more important power.

The power of the religion is connected with other forms of powers, what gives it an impressive influence with people
