Dear Madame,
Dear Sir,
I have the high honor to ask for an admission to the Master of Physics in your prestigious School. I expect to graduate Physics by July at the Blaise Pascal University in Clermont Ferrand. Here, beside the study of a wide range of courses I am working as an intern in the Laboratory of Corpuscular Physics where I realized my deep interest for Theoretical Physics related to Astrophysics and Particles Physics.
My aim is to continue the study Physics at the University of Geneva which offer one of the
biggest choices of interesting courses in this area.
In the same time, from an extra-curriculum point of view Geneva would be an ideal place to me to study : I would like to be immersed to the Geneva's cosmopolitan culture. Born in Lausanne, moving with my parents to Ottawa when I was four, therefore accompanying them in Grenoble as a teenager, I was structured to open my eyes to the novelty of each place.
I am aware of the intense work to provide and am sure that I have the motivation, the skills and the maturity to successfully achieve the University of Geneva Master degree in Physics.
I have an unusual road. While admitted to the Champollion Preparatory Class after graduating High School, I chose to study Chemistry to the EPFL. The results of the first year would have determined me to continue in the study of this scientific branch, but I realized that despite good results to the chemistry labs my interest for this part was limited and I prefer the theoretical side. So I moved to Mathematics at EPFL where I acquired good mathematical background and programming skills as well as knowledge about signal processing and algorithm analysis. Based on my results and the fact that the EPFL program covers the subjects of the two years of preparatory classes, in July 2015 I have been admitted to integrate the third year of the Bachelor in Physics Program offered by University Joseph Fourier, University Claude Bernard and University Blaise Pascal, which I chose, attracted by the Laboratory of Corpuscular Physics.
My interest for Physics is not fortuitous, it goes back to September 2011 when I participated to an Open Day organized by the Physics Department of Oxford University. At the time I read the book « Chemistry, Matter and the Universe » by Richard Dicherson and Irving Geis and I had the curiosity to know about the matter from a chemical perspective. My interest follows today with theoretical physics, related to particles physics and astrophysics. During this academic year I had the occasion to acquire basic knowledge in Physics from courses as:
• Electromagnetism on matter
• Fluid Mechanics
• Vibration Mechanics (Newtonian Vibrations, Lagrangian Mechanics, Vibrating rope)
• Numerical Methods
• Advanced Integrals and Differential Equations
• Astrophysics ( Classical Astronomy, Stars, Galaxies, Cosmology and General Relativity)
• Quantum Mechanics
• Physical
