With a shift in employee attitudes, more want to see flexible work arrangements and work-life balance. North American companies can learn from other parts of the world

 – Share an example of how a company outside of North America supports work-life balance and how this can attract/retain employees.

A company such as Airbus focuses truly on the work-life balance for their employees as they realized that not only is there a direct benefit towards the employee’s quality of life outside the office, but there is also a perceptible increase in performance. To do so, Airbus offers many flexible and dynamic resources to insure work-life balance. Firstly, Airbus offers clear and defined tasks and expectations when an employee is hired into a position and that the scope of work is limited only to what is delegated initially. This allows for employees to work efficiently on the work that they are most comfortable and able with. Furthermore, having an organized work structure and management allows for work to strictly stay within the office spaces and that during off-hours, there are rarely assignments or tasks that employees would need to check up on and forward. Secondly, Airbus offers their employees flexible work hours to a certain extent to meet with their personal schedules as well as offer solutions to save time during commutes. Lastly, Airbus provides support not only to the employees but as well as to the families to entice employees to remain at their company and set clear and distinct boundaries on the time spent at work and the time spent during the rest of their life.

These benefits are all in all quite attractive to employees and can greatly aid in the recruitment of qualified talent as well as retaining them over a long period of time. Flexible work hours where employees work defined and familiar tasks with an engaging and respectful management team and coworkers allow for the hours spent at work to feel fulfilling. Also, the effort put in by Airbus to deliberately invest into saving time for their employees using transport and technology also entices many to work at Airbus.
