Our presentation deals with the organization of Total Company which is one of the most powerful oil’s company in the world and the first employer in the Atlantic Pyrenees in Pau and the most powerful french’s company by market capitalization in 2014 at the CAC 40 with more of 108 billion of share capital.
Total is a Global energy operator which belong to the world’s five ranked publicly traded, integrated international oil company which operates in more than 130 countries with 100 000 employees which represent 130 nationalities in the world. Her main goal is to satisfy the increasing demand in energy at the world level.
Total to compete as a leader in the global energy sector has gradually established her organizational structure, her business segments and her strategic vision in the long term.
In the first part of our presentation we will speak about the history of the company and in the second part about the business segments of the activities of total and her organizational structure . Then in the ultimate part Marina will expose you the strategic vision of the company in the future
I: Total, a major energy operator for almost a century
I will expose you the keys’ years of the development of the company to explain the history of the building brand as a major energy operator with a worldwide presence.
1924: French Prime Minister Raymond Poincaré created Compagnie Française des Pétroles (CFP) and Ernest Mercier was in charge of the direction of the company, he was the CEO
In 1929, the company began an exploration work in other countries to discover and develop new resources.
• 1929: CFP was listed on the Paris Bourse. It was renamed Total-CFP in 1985, then Total in 1991.
° 1954: the launch of the brand Total
1961: Discovered her first offshore fields, in Gabon.
• 1975: Made her first foray into solar energy in the mid-1970s. In 2011 Total acquired 60% of the U.S. company SunPower and now own 65% of what is the world's second-ranking solar operator.
• 1982: Performed her first deepwater drilling operation (1,714 meters) in the Mediterranean.
• 1986: Opened her first automated service station in France.
° CFP was renamed Total the 26 junes in 1991
1999-2000: She strengthened her positions by merging first with PetroFina and then Elf Aquitaine.
• 2011: Created the Total Access network, 600 low-price stations across France. they plan to open another 150 stations by end-2015.
2014: Christophe de Margerie died in a plane aircrash during the nigh between the 20 and 21 of october at moscou at the airport of Vnoukovo
Total's history began in the 1920s, with the creation of Compagnie Française des Pétroles (CFP). At the time she produced oil in the Middle East. Over the years the company expanded internationally and diversified into refining, petroleum product marketing, and chemicals. After nearly 100 years of growth and development, it’s now a leading global energy company, on the cutting edge of innovation..
Nowadays the company employs almost 100,000 people worldwide, men and women of all backgrounds who help move us forward each day. She also reported net income of €189.5 billion in 2013 from strategically related activities and has a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility.
II: The organization of total: her business segments
Total which is the most powerful global energy operator had diversified her activity into three business segments to operate as a leader company in the energy’s sector and to be present in each segments of the energy sector.
Total’s three business segments cover every aspect of the oil and gas industry, from exploration, development, production, refining and petrochemicals to marketing, trading and shipping. Total is also involve in specialty chemicals and tend to become a global leader in new energies.
Total is leveraging her integrated business model, which enables her to capture all of the synergies in her business base worldwide.
The three business segment of total are :
I:The Upstreeam encompasses oil exploration and production and activities involving natural gas. The Group has exploration and production activities in more than fifty countries and produces oil or gas in approximately thirty countries.In 2013, her Upstream business segment produced 2.3 million barrels of oil equivalent (Mboe) per day and booked 11.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent (Bboe) of proved reserves. there are two business segment in the Upstream business segment.
A:In the first time there is the Total Exploration & Production’s segment which aims to discover and develop oil and gas fields to meet the world’s growing energy demand.
B:In other hand there is the gas and power division. Gas & Power trades, markets and ships natural gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). It also generates power and mines and markets coal.
II: Marketing & Services
Her Marketing & Services business segment supplies and markets petroleum products and provides associated services, through service stations for cars and trucks and general retail operations for automotive fuels, fuel oil, lubricants, LPG, asphalt, special fluids and other products. The M&S segment includes also the activity of New Energies.
