OPINION ESSAY

In the last years, more and more frequently, students select distant and foreign universities where launching their path. There are infinite possibilities of choice. In my opinion, a session of advanced studies abroad, or simply in a distant university, is an interesting experience that every youth should experiment. Furthermore, in my view, this represents not only an experience of study career, but also an experience of life.

 In the first place, by choosing a distant university, a teenager learns to be more mature and responsible. This opportunity makes a student independent and teaches him how to reach an autonomy released from the family and the dears. Nevertheless, it also helps him understanding how to manage his own finances and his time.

Not to mention the fact that a distant university allows to socialise and compare with peers of different proveniences and cultures, and to make new friendships. Another major reason is that, in my view, having conversations with local people allows to enhance the knowledge and the skills of the language.

As opposed to the above ideas, there are people who might think that choosing a distant university entails also some flaws. For example, spending a ‘substantial’ lapse of time far away from home could arouse traumas and could lead to spoil relations. In addition to this, it is argue that being not able to join any company of friends could represent another social trauma.  

I do not agree with this point of view, and I strongly believe that choosing a distant university is the perfect opportunity to get out of the comfort-zone.
