Obsolescence programmée

The HOP association wants a society without programmed obsolescence. According to them, Planned obsolescence highlights a bigger problem in our society: waste caused by an unsustainable production and consumption model.

The association promotes sustainable economic models that prioritize long-term product use, resource reuse, in order to reduce waste. 

HOP also wants to raise awareness of the citizen. Their website lists their actions. 

First of all HOP has published many reports and 3 books and board games on planned obsolescence. They lead conferences, give talks in schools and companies. Moreover the association acts at all levels. They work with the city of Paris, they have proposed many amendments adopted in the anti-waste law in France. They also act at the international level with their white book in English which lists their ideas to stop planned obsolescence 

Finally, the association carries out legal actions thanks to a committee of experts. It filed a complaint against the technical obsolescence of epson printers in 2017.

In 2020 Hop attacked Microsoft and Google with their wasteful advertising 

Finally, HoP succeeded in imposing a fine of 25 million against Apple in 2020. The complaint filed in 2017 denounced the slowdowns of older Iphones. A society without planned obsolescence
