2.06A A Broadcast of The Civil War
Hello everyone and welcome to your radio show. Today we will talk about the different key points of the civil war.
To begin with we can talk about the attack on Fort Sumter. The Battle of Fort Sumter was a bombing action on April 12 and 13, 1861 by the Confederate States Army to dislodge the Federal garrison occupying Fort Sumter at the entrance to Charleston Bay in South Carolina. This battle, which did not result in any deaths, triggered the Civil War (1861-1865) in the United States, one of the deadliest conflicts in the country's history.
Thereafter there were the Battle of Antietam. The Battle of Antietam took place in Maryland on September 17, 1862, during the American Civil War. It opposed the Confederate general Robert E. Lee to the Unionist general George B. McClellan. This battle was one of the bloodiest of the Civil War, with 24,000 dead in one day.
Now let's talk about The Battle of Gettysburg. The Battle of Gettysburg took place from July 1 to 3, 1863 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, during the American Civil War. This battle, the heaviest of the war in terms of human losses, ended with the defeat of the Confederates who left the terrain to the Unionists. It is often considered as the main turning point of the war.
Now let's talk about the surrender of the South in this war. The Union succeeded in invading the Southern states. The Confederates capitulated on April 9, 1865. The battle of Appomattox put an end to the Civil War.
Finally, we will explain Florida's role in the Civil War. Florida was an important supply route for the Confederate Army but Union forces were operating a blockade around the entire state.
