Idea of Progress

I'm going to talk about the notion idea of progress. To begin with, I would like to introduce a definition of this notion. The idea of progress can be defined as an improvement, a development or a change. A technical, scientific and social advance contributes to make the world a better place. To illustrate this notion, I have chosen three documents. A Revolution in reading is an article about replacing books with digital platforms. I want him crucified is an article taken from US magazine when AIDS became a worldwide epidemic. A journalist ruined life of a child doctor by making the test results public. And my personal document is an announcement on the legality of weddings gay in the US. This question raised by this set of documents is the following: What are the different forms of progress? I will first concentrate on the technological progress, scientific progress, and finally social progress.

There are several forms of progress: the social progress which is enables advances on the society. For example, freedom, right of people. There are scientific and technological progress, the scientific progress refers more to medicine whereas the technological progress as new technologies improve in communication and production.

First, the document I have chosen is an article from The Times, “A Revolution in reading”. The title presents an important event for the reading. Indeed, this text is about the revolution in books, since new technologies allow to read several books on a single platform, whereas authentic books as well as libraries become useless. So, this article discusses on this change. «I still to graft them with has mixture of excitement and awe" this quotation tries to affect the youth who had forgotten the feeling of having a book in the hand it will choose the technology rather than original book. Although the technology progresses, changes will take place: library will be of no use any more and will be destroyed to give way to other stores. «One fear that this library total, vast and invisible, was finally destroy traditional libraries, which will become mere warehouses for the physical objects ".

There are however advantages, the fact of having a single catalog for all that of books allows their protections and their preservations. “However, the advantages of has single on-line scholarly catalog incalculable are and rather than destroying libraries, the internet protect the written word will have to never, and render knowledge genuinely democratic.” As proves in this quotation, the progress of technology allows an advantage in life.

Secondly, I want him crucified is an article when AIDS became an epidemic. Indeed, it is an epidemic that affects many people and still does not today vaccine. Although we can treat this disease, the treatment will be useful to extend the life of the patient. It is a contagious disease transmitted through sexual contact or contaminated blood and causing a weakening of immunities system multiplication of various infections and cancers causing death.

Although Huse is a competent doctor, I quote “those qualities are no match for the fear of AIDS”. This shows the danger and fear of this disease. “Though the test showed that Huse carries antibodies to the virus that causes AIDS. This quote takes into account the
