The World Trade Organization was established on January 1 1995. The WTO’s roots can be traced to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. It is the international organization dealing with the global rules of trade between nations. Its main function is to ensure that trade flows as smoothly, predictably and freely as possible. This organization is one of the main mechanisms of corporate Globalization because enable the liberalization of services. A lot of countries belong to this organization such as: America, Europe, the sub-Saharan countries and East and South Asia. The WTO had 147 members in 2004. However the WTO is the cause of a lot of critics.

Why his liberal globalization is so criticized?

The World Trade Organization (WTO) threatens sovereignty, democracy, worker's rights and environmental protections.

The WTO is accused of promoted a Globalization discriminator. Indeed this organization’s agreement advances the interest of the world's most powerful corporations. The result is the irregular trade between the South countries and rich countries. For example rich countries have not fully opened their markets to products from the poor countries. In this way the top five exporting countries : USA, Germany, Japan, France, United Kingdom, have 37 % of all world trade whereas the least developed countries have only 0,6% for the same population. Another it favors rich businessmen at the expanse of poor salaried. We can hear than this organization is run by rich for the rich.

WTO decisions are absolute and every member must abide by its ruling. It acts as judge and jury when countries are in dispute. WTO members are empowered by the organization to enforce its decisions by imposing trade sanctions against countries that have breached the rules. This can be considered as an impediment to democracy.

The WTO by growing exchanges led the increase of factories which caused huge world pollution.

In brief we can say that this organization is very criticized for several reasons but hasn’t it done positive actions on the world trade level?
