Apartheid

Apartheid is a system of systematic segregation that existed in South Africa between whites and blacks from 1948 to 1991.It’s 
a policy of racial segregation by the National Party in 1948 in South Africa and which will last until 1991. Apartheid called for the separate development of the different racial groups in South Africa   and in particular the Whites of the Blacks.

In fact, it is a concept officially introduced in 1948 in the South African law and by which white leaders impose racial segregation on the entire population. 

Apartheid is often loosely divided into two parts: petty and grand apartheid. Petty Apartheid was the most visible side of Apartheid. It was the segregation of facilities based on race. Grand Apartheid refers to the underlying limitations placed on black South Africans’ access to land and political rights. These were the laws that prevented black South Africans from even living in the same areas as white people. They also denied black Africans political representation, and, at its most extreme, citizenship in South Africa. 

The South African system of apartheid, which separated people by the color of their skin, ended after decades of protest. . When F. W. de Klerk became President of South Africa he called for a new society without apartheid. He lifted the ban on protest marches, and ended many of the restrictions of apartheid. In 1989, de Klerk lifted the ban on protest marches and ended the racial segregation of public facilities. Previously, parks, beaches, and even benches had been divided according to the color of people’s skin. De Klerk and Nelson Mandela agreed to dismantle the apartheid regime. On April 27, 1994, millions of South Africans, both black and white, were able to vote in the first multiracial elections held in South Africa since apartheid began in 1948.
