Intro

Hello everyone, today we will make you dream. Indeed, we will present you Finland.

First of all, Finland is known to be the happiest country in the world, it is a growing travel destination for its landscapes and the exquisite Finnish cuisine…

So let us introduce you to your future destination!

Geography

First, Finland is a northern country of Europe with an area of 338 455 square kilometers.

The capital city is Helsinki and there are around 5.6 million inhabitants in this country and he majority of them are ethnic Finns.

Finland is divided into 19 regions governed by regional council which are composed of delegates from municipal councils.

Moreover, there are lot of mountains like Halti which is the highest with 1324 meter above sea level. All of them are principally in Finnish Lapland. Besides, it is only daylight between 4 and 6 hours a day therefore climate varies from humid continental in the south to the boreal in the north.

Furthermore, Finland is reputed for its many national parks. Indeed, there are 41 national parks like Pallas- Ounastunturi and Pyha opened in 1938. Their aim is to clean Nordic nature and preserve wildlife. To finish, there are more than 188 000 recorded lakes in Finland what makes it special and the land cover is primarily a boreal forest biome.

History

Then, we are going to talk about historical main facts.

First, let’s listen to the Finnish national anthem.

The national day is on 6th December for commemorating Finland’s 1917 independence from Russia.

The ceremony begins with the traditional raising of the Finnish Flag on the Observatory Hill in Helsinki. After that there is the annual military parade by the Finnish Defense Forces and in the evening the President laid a wreath of flowers on the memorial in honor of the victims. Then there are concerts and fireworks.

To finish, there is the Presidential Independence Day reception at the President Palace which is a President Ball.

Activities

You may be wondering what activities you can do in Finland, here is the answer. First, the activities are mainly based on the snow because of the climate. For instance, lakes are frozen, as a result, people can practice ice skating or they can practice ice-swimming or even skiing. But you can also do dog-sledding and even reindeers-draw sleigh. What’s more, there aren’t just physical activities, in fact, you can also visit historical monuments like the Helsinki Lutheran Cathedral, the Suomenlinna Fortress which is a UNESCO world heritage or the snow castle and many more…

Besides you can also have the chance to contemplate northern lights.

Tradition

Now, we will deal with the typical Finnish traditions. Therefore, there are more than 3 million saunas in Finland for 5 million inhabitants so if you are cold, you can come warm yourself up! Moreover, there are typical dishes likes Karelian pasty, Korvapuusti, blueberry pie, …

The Finnish Christmas starts on December 23 and ends after December 26. Gifts are given on Christmas Eve, and people eat on Christmas day which is followed by saunas.
