Scène 1 Théâtre

Scène 1 :

We are in the city of Salford, on the doks, it 6 am. There is mist, hidding the morning sun.

Jim, in his uniform, is ready to go on the ship and leave on the sea. Joe is depressed and coming to him to discuss. She is wearing a heavy coat and a sad face. 

• Oh ! you came to send me of ?
• Actually, I’m here to tell you something
• Oh what is it ?  why the long face?
• She is sigh deeply.
• I’m pregnant Jimmy. It’s your baby
• Jimmy’s face darken. He lost his smile and take a step back
• Are you sure ? you’re not mistaken ?
• No… I’m very sure. You’re the only one
• Heavy silence
• You know I can’t
• Jo is resigned
• I know… but you can’t leave me alone like this…
• I deeply sorry but I have to go
• Jo is pissed
• YOU CAN’T LEAVE ME ! You can’t
• I can try to come back after my trip. I will do everything for you, I promise, believe me sweat heart
• You really promise ?
• Yes, I do
• I will be waiting for you, then
• Jimmy kiss her cheek and board on the ship which disappear in the mist.

Scène 2:

• Nine month later, the baby is born. Joe and her mother are in good terms. But Joe is in depression. One day, she comes back at Geoff’s place, she is soaked. Geoff is sitting on a armchair. He stands up. He has an inquisitive look on his face.  The baby is not here. Joe is not in her right state of mind
• Why are you soaked? Where is the baby?
• Joe open the mouse, but no sound come’s out
• I took a bath..
• Where ? we don’t have a bathtub. Did you leave the baby at your mother?
• I gave the baby a bath.
• Okay, but now, (he is pointing is finger donwards) right now, where is the baby?
• Joe is playing with here hands she becomes frantic and walks back and forth.
• My baby, my baby, my baby is in the bath…. The baby is in the bath
• Geoff takes her shoulders and shakes her.
• Where is the baby?
• In the river…
• Geoff recoils from her, bewildered.
• The river?
• For the first time she looks him right in the eyes like she came back with him.
• I drowned the baby in the river. I immersed the baby’s head in the water. After that I wrapped the corpse in newspaper and dump it on a doorstep.
• How could you did you loose your mind ? How will you ever sleep again ?
• You did such a bad thing.
• This night has opened my eyes, and I’m not happy and I’m not sad.
