THE IDEA OF PROGRESS
I am going to talk about the notion of progress … The progress is a forward movement, an advance, a development and a gradual improvement. (For example: the development of human kind – today, people are less racist, more tolerant)
How do science and technology compete with fiction to transform our lives?
To illustrate the notion, I have chosen two documents – the first document is a recording and the second document is a text.
Pod Lecture: A Great Genius Inventor
The first document it’s a recording talking about an inventor Thomas Edison – This man did not go to school and he became deaf. He sold newspapers and candies on brains to make money. He has invented many technologies for example the telegraph, the cameras, the movie project … And he became a freelance inventor.
The second document refers to the inventions that already exist, for example the virtual reality, the space exploration will probably continue. And the inventions that may exist in the future, for example the nanobots, time travel- because maybe time travel will be possible and we also discover parallel universes or even settle on news planets. News technologies were invented by humans.
The link with the notion
In the first document there is a link with the notion because it speaks of a person never studied but he learns alone. It shows the progress because this person –Thomas Edison- make a progress.
In the second document there is a link with the notion because there is/ we can see an evolution of progress between what existed before and what exist today.
Conclusion
In my opinion the progress was attributed to the persons who are courageous and the persons make efforts in their life and this is exactly what the documents shows.
