It is notoriously known that, motivation is one of the crucial factors, not only
In terms of language learning, but in every learning process. It is also said that
people who are not motivated are more likely to fail in achieving their goals
than those who are so. The following essay elaborate the significant importance
of the notion of motivation and seeks to light out how vital it is in learning a
foreign language. The essay will also focus on analyzing the life style of the
one’s desiring learn a new language and what impact could this have on his
acquisition path.
The accomplishment of any action usually relies on the degree to which
individuals strive to attain their purpose, alongside the desire to do so. In general
people have come to allude to this psychological factor – the impulse that
generates the action – as motivation. As the term itself indicates, it is a ―motive
force‖, something that prompts or stimulates action. to consider motivation as
having a place just with the underlying phases of an activity, - that is as
concerned with arousing initial interest and turning it into a decision to engage
in some activity – is only a limited understanding of the term. The need
to maintain this condition of excitement, to determine someone to
make the necessary effort to complete an action is additionally of great
significance. This idea is reflected in the definition given by [1] who define
motivation as ―a state of cognitive and emotional arousal, a state which leads
to a conscious decision to act and gives rise to a period of sustained intellectual
and/or physical effort [1]. Thus intellect and affect combine with volition and
perseverance to bring about what is known as motivated behavior. The same
idea is conveyed in different words by Gardner who seems to explain the term
with the precision of mathematical demonstration: motivation is a combination
of effort plus desire to achieve a goal plus favorable attitudes towards the goal
to be accomplished [2].

learning a second language; language aptitude, personality, attitude and
motivation. Teachers around the world find that some learners learn more
and/or faster than others. Motivated learners are every teacher’s dream —
they are willing to work hard, add their own goals to those of the classroom,
