Objectives:
- To make a clear and structured presentation on an English-speaking city.
- To meet the minimum time limit of 2.5 minutes.
- To present relevant ideas to the topic discussed.
- To apply the grammatical code satisfactorily.
The Task:
For the midterm oral presentation, you will have to provide information on an English-speaking city.
1 minute must be dedicated to general information such as its location, population, demographics, economic profile, main challenges, etc.
For the second half of the presentation, you have two options. You can talk about its history and provide information pertaining to the circumstances of its foundation, its evolution, and some of the most important events that have affected the city.
You can also talk about some of its main attractions and explain why they are interesting.
You may look anywhere you think will help you in the development of your presentation. In other words, you can use newspapers, magazines, the Internet among other things.
The presentations will be evaluated as follows:
Content: 30%
Grammar: 25%
Delivery: 20%
Structure/organization: 15%
Participation: 10%
Content: a) Relevant statements or arguments, transmission of knowledge, facts and information on the chosen topic.
b) Pertinent & effective use of vocabulary.
c) Overall clarity and quality of the information presented.
Grammar: a) Verbs, correct agreement of plurals.
b) Complete sentences, sentence structure.
c) Everything seen in class concerning grammar.
Delivery: a) Pronunciation
b) Speed, loudness, posture
c) Fluency
Structure/organization
- Ideas are clear and well developed. The presentation contains an introduction, a development and a conclusion.
Participation: You must ask at least one question. The question must be relevant and grammatically correct.
Note: The purpose of this evaluation is to measure your ability to make a coherent presentation. You should be well prepared and therefore able to make your presentation in a relaxed and comfortable manner. Any presentations that are read or recited will get the final grade cut by 50%. The oral presentations will be held in week 8. You will make your presentations in groups of 3-4 people; the schedule will be sent by MIO.
