This is the notion idea of progress I picked it is and to illustrate this theme, our teacher chose to talk about the environment.
Let’s me define the notion first: The idea of progress can be defined as an improvement, a development or a change – a technical, scientific or social advance which contributes to making the world a better place.
And the key question that I will ask myself will be the following: Is our planet in danger?
In my first part, I will talk about firstly the danger of our planet. In my second part, I will talk about the solutions for the protection of the planet. Finally, I will show you celebrities who defend the environment.
The first paper we discussed was “environment and climate change”. Firstly, the document gives the definition of global warming. The text tells us that global warming is an increase in the temperature caused by the combustion of fossil fuels and the emission of greenhouse gases.
The paper was about deforestation and the rainforest. If we cut trees, the rainforest will no longer be able to absorb CO2 and the world will be more polluted. This will have an impact on the temperature.
In another document that we had studied, we were talking about “polar bears”. In this paper, we learned that gas like carbon dioxide causes the melting of the ice cap. This has an impact on polar bears since their natural habitat is disappearing. This species is endangered because of the climate. Polar bears will no longer be able to hunt and eventually disappear.
To address the problems I have just quoted, we can use electric cars and public transport to avoid releasing greenhouse gases. Or we should encourage local food to reduce our carbon footprint. To avoid increasing the Earth’s temperature, the entire population of the land should decrease by 1 degree their heating systems. We need to build advantages of so-called “green buildings” that are self-sufficient. These buildings can produce their own energies through solar panels, for example.
Finally, there are celebrities who defend nature. In the video document we studied in class, L. di Caprio in an interview tells us that he is fascinated by the world in which we live. Di Caprio complains that there are not enough people protecting the planet, di Caprio decides to turn to the wealthiest to contribute to the protection of nature. M.J. is also for the protection of nature. He made music called: Earth song which speaks of all the “madness” of our world.
To conclude, our planet is in danger because there is a lot of pollution, but there are solutions to address pollution problems. There are also celebrities who contribute to the preservation of nature.
This is the notion spaces and exchanges I picked it is and to illustrate this theme, our teacher chose to talk about new technologies.
Let’s me define the notion first: This notion deals with the geographical and symbolic areas that all societies occupy and the interactions between men and different societies. Our world is built on the exploration and conquest of new spaces. The different cultural, economic, sociological and language interactions have shaped and characterised our modern-day world.
And the key question that I will ask myself will be the following: Is the technology harmful to us?
In my first part, I will talk about firstly bad side of technology. In my second part, I will talk about the good side of technology.
Technology can make us addicted because we saw it in class in a document called “I was a game addict”. This paper deals with a young man who spends his, time playing video games. He says he has no limit of play. He considers video games to be a way to escape if someone does not trust himself where he has problems with his parents. In the games, they can become what they claim to be in the truth – life (a hero, win wars) where they can triumph over their enemies. We also have that technology could change our behaviours. As the document shows: “think before you click”, thanks to the video games, people can become more violent, narcissistic and childish, because they are behind their screens.
The technology also has a good side as shown in the document: “can video game be good for you”. For some people, it makes it possible to escape from the reality. Video games have several positive aspects: they allow socialising, they also allow increasing cognitive skills such as memory, strategic planning. The game allows us to be more concentrated, but it must, of course, play in moderation!
To conclude, technology can be harmful to us because it can change our behaviour, for example.
