1- Famous artworks and controversy : 2 examples of Banksy’s work of art / Street art
Banksy, Mobile Lovers, 2014
Banksy, Slave Labour,
2012
Both works show Banksy’s look on 2 different issues in our society. The 1st work, Mobile Lovers, was painted on a door, in a street in England. The 2nd work, Slave Labour, deals with children’s work when preparing the Olympic Games in London, in 2012.
Both artworks are quite ironic and seem to spark a debate.
In both works, Banksy sheds light on society’s flaws.
With Mobile Lovers, Banksy denounces people’s addiction to their cellphones. Despite the situation, they prefer looking at their phones rather than at each other.
With Slave Labour, Banksy probably wants to raise awareness about slave labour. The little boy
is using the sewing machine to sew British flags, which becomes a way for Banksy to be cynical / ironical / controversial / provocative about child labour (during the preparation for the Olympic Games in London).
