Hello my name is
The document we are going to study is an article named « San Francisco to Ban Toys from Fast Food
Children's Meals". We don’t know the exact date, but we can suppose that it dates from
approximately 2010…………………………………., thanks to the dates we have in the text. It deals with a
worrying health issue that mainly affects the United States: obesity because of fast food. Specifically,
it’s talking about a law that would remove toys from children's menus, to less attract children to eat
fat.
At first, the document informs us of this new law, and then of the different reactions it provokes.
To curb obesity and others illness from fast food, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted a law
(which go into effect in December 2011) to forbid toys included in children’s meals like the giant
Mcdonal’ds.
Instead, they would like to included fruit and vegetables in the menu. This law provokes many
reactions. On the one hand, activists for healthy food, public health officiels and supervisors are glad
of the application of this law. They hope that other cities in the USA will adopt it too. They don’t want
to work against the fast food industry, but work with thème and create healthier food because they
are concern about children’s health. On the other hand, the fast food industry is worried. Even San
Francisco’ mayor is against it,
because he thinks it’s the job of parents to decide where their children eat and what they eat, not
the government. Furthermore, the fast food industry have spent a huge amount of money in
advertising to childrens and in toys included in meals, and this law would be able to stop this
marketing.
