The SURE House

In October 2012 Hurricane Sandy took place, particularly in the north-eastern United States, from New York to New Jersey.

The damage was huge especially in New Jersey, 4 billion dollars in damage, 346,000 houses hit, 43 people died in New York and 34 in New Jersey. Over the years, cities have tried to rebuild themselves and are trying to protect themselves from the rising waters and hurricanes.

The Stevens Institute of Technology is a private American university located in New Jersey. Solar 2015 decathlon of the US Department of Energy have decided to respond positively to this disaster by creating a kind of house that adapts to any type of climate, and extreme including hurricanes but also that reduces both its use of energy.

It is a modern house of contemporary style very bright. The house measures 1000 square foot home, custom built. The fan recovers heat from the stale air and uses it to help fresh air be filtered all year round. The windows are triple glazed. The floor and walls are clad in a thick, durable plastic sheet. Shutters made of fibber composite materials seal the house in the event of a storm. There are also solar panels for the summer that serve residents in case of power failure and photovoltaic panels for the winter that provide hot water after the storm.
