The article I have chosen to summarize is from a British multinational publisher named Routledje ( Taylor and Francis group ). It was founded in 1836 by George Routledge, and specialises in providing academic books, journals, & online resources in the fields of humanities, behavioural science, education, law and social science.

The Commonwealth Games, often referred to as the "Friendship Games" and formerly known as the British Empire Games, is a competition that brings together athletes from the Commonwealth countries. The games are intended to increase goodwill and good understanding in the Commonwealth nation, the various athletes competed in athletics, boxing, swimming, rowing, wrestling and lawn bowling.

The Commonwealth Games have something unique that makes them unlike other international sports events around the globe, they are the only ones to have a common language (English). Therefore, all athletes and officials can converse, creating an atmosphere that has contributed to the perception of the Commonwealth Games as the "Friendship Games".

Even though the games are enjoyed by millions of spectators around the world, many don’t see the reason to celebrate an event that brings together countries that have experienced one of the greatest human rights tragedies in the history of mankind, organized by those who perpetrated it

Indeed in 1930, they were mainly intended to give a good image of the British Empire. Throughout the 20th century, the games served to wash the reputation of the British Empire in sporting terms, "friendly games" between nations whose permanent and exclusive link was their colonization by Great Britain. The Commonwealth Games Federation had no choice but to reinvent itself, its brand and its ideologies.

Personally I see this event from an unhealthy point of view, Great Britain wanted to restore its reputation after the colonization these games were created to benefit the United Kingdom but this is no longer the case today so I find that the Commonwealth games are a good idea to maintain a good relationship with other countries.
