After the magnificent demonstration of Gervaise’s horse taming skills, I decided to give him a chance to earn money by working for me in the ranch.

        I have been thinking about it for a while now, and I think I am finally ready to announce it to you; I am looking for a man who will take care of the ranch. As you know our cattle are getting bigger and our activity too, so we need more men to accomplish the everyday tasks such as taking care of the buffalos the horses and the land. For this job, I knew it was mad for you since you are an excellent horse rider and your military formation will make of you the best employee ever as you learnt to wake up early, being courageous, determined and strong willed.

        Thank you very much for the offer, he said, I am so glad that you first thought about me for this job.

        I knew it; I said cheerily, I was sure that you would say yes even before asking about your paycheck.

        I am sorry deceive you but I won’t be able to handle this responsibility because I am not enough experimented, without forgetting that I have a family that is waiting for me in the city and I can’t leave them alone for a long period of time.

        Come on, I said blasted, you can’t let me down this only time I need you. You are the best candidate for this job and you know it.

        As I told you I am not ready for this duty neither leaving my beloved ones on their own.
