FINAL TASK: The Australian Flag

DIAPO 1:

So, here’s the flag we made. To create it, we’ve looked for a lot of different existing flags and made research on the existing symbols there are in Australia.

DIAPO 2:

The flag has the geometric peculiarity of being a rectangle having a ratio of 1/2, in other words, this flag is twice as long as high. This refers to the current flag of Australia which has this same ratio as all other flag featuring the Union Jack. This is sort of a reminder of the country's history.

DIAPO 3:

The flag we made is composed of two mains parts. A deep blue one and a deep red one. These colors represent the two geographical aspects of the island: the blue being the ocean and the red being the sand, its deserts representing more or less 70% of the country. Moreover, the blue which has been used is the one from the Union Jack and the red is the one from the aboriginal flag.

DIAPO 4:

These two main parts are separated by three stripes: green, black and gray. These lines make reference to the natural resources of the country. The green for the agricultural exports, like tea, the gray for the mining exports, like uranium or gold, and the black for the oil as well as the aboriginal culture. By their central position, these lines represent the dynamism of the island, being placed between land and sea.

Moreover these stripes make reference to the rainbow snake from the aboriginal myths by their elongated shape.

DIAPO 5:

There is also a specific symbol in each main part of the flag. In the blue part, at the down left hand corner, there is a yellow ocher turtle.

The turtle represents Australian fauna as well as the mythical Turtle World from the aboriginal folklore. Moreover the turtle represents wisdom and longevity in the aboriginal culture.

In the red part, at he up right hand corner, there is a yellow ocher sun surrounded by 4 white lines and 4 black lines. The yellow sun represents dawn and the white and black lines represent the two main ethnics groups of the country.

In addition, the black and white lines are arranged in such a way that lines of the same color form like a cross. Making a reference to the cross of the south, already featured in the current Australian flag.

Moreover, the disk with the lines represents a meeting place in aboriginal arts.

The sum of the yellow ochre symbols therefore represents the creation of a new sum society made from the inspirations of many outlooks.

DIAPO 6:

So, here’s the complete flag with some various designs thought during the creation of the flag.
