Europe faces with pressing issues such as an increase in power and authority of China, an intrusive Russia, the ongoing climate change, the complexity of IA, let alone the middle East in chaos, and the United States lead by its current president Donald Trump.
In confront of these challenges, Europeans, growing concerns regarding the EU's ability to bring about significant improvements. Solidarity should be at the core of the EU’s mind. This is the only way for the EU to be a global player, speaking the language of power in a world of giants.
In trade negotiations, Europe is certainly seen as a superpower, it’s the world’s biggest and richest single market area. Moreover the UE lead the charge on digital regulation indeed Brussel’s setting privacy standards for the worldwide internet, except for the Chinese internet. Regarding the global warming, Europe is not considered as a superpower, nevertheless, it sets some meaningful strategies. As the world's largest development aid donor, the EU plays a key role in supporting others countries across the world. The enlargement process has become the most EU’s successful policy, proving the attractive nature of the Union, that’s why several countries decide to join the UE. By the way accession negotiations are currently under way with Turkey.Despite its involvement, great powers such as Russia, Chinese and American have a demeaning and contemptuous opinion of Europe. The federalist Guy Verhofstadt suggested Europe had got to be a superstate before becoming a superpower. According to his institutional and unfeasible proposal Europe need ending unanimity. The goal for Europe of being a superpower requires countries to join forces.The ideal would be for Germany, France and Britain to form a group of States and if possible some relevant European States such Poland and the Baltic countries (for the east challenges) , Italy and Spain (for Mediterranean ones) in order to create a co-ordinated and strategic policy. To do this, national interests should be understood, the strategic analysis of the threat must be common, and political will must be at its peak. Let's note that the Brexit decision doesn’t make it easier. The president Macron is the one who aspires to its aim, it would have to find the right alliances so that Europe could become a superpower.
