Places and Exchanges.

Migration has always led to lots of exchanges in terms of economy and culture. The United States of America symbolize Freedom, a second chance in the life. Numerous immigrants come in United States. Some come to escape hunger, politic situations in their country and the ward. But other immigrants come to begin a new life. The Statue of Liberty symbolizes the American dream, to start from nothing and to suceed in life. Immigration is very controlled, but numerous immigrants are undocumented. So, what is the place of the immigration in the society and the culture of the United States of America?

First, we will talk about the various immigrant communities. Then, we will explain what impact immigrants have on American culture.

In the United States, there are 3 categories of immigrants : the Black communtiy, the Asian community and the Hispanics community. The hispanics community is the biggest minority. They have their language, their culture, their food. Actually, they are 43 millions. Hispanics have an important place in economy because they mainly take low-paying jobs. But, numerous immigrants are undocumented.

We studied the example of Jose Vargas. Jose Vargas was an immigrant undocumented who has the American citizenship today. He grew up in the United States but he couldn't benefit from numerous rights, as the voting right or simply the right to be healed in a hospital. Vargas studied and became a journalist, he has a good life. He lived the « American dream ». He proved that immigrant dont only take low-paying jobs and that they study to become real citizens.

The Hispanic community has a more and more important impact on the US society. The most visible impact seems to be related to language. More and more people are speaking Spanish in the United States, especially in the South of the US because of an important Hispanic community.

For some Americans, this boom is representing a danger for both the immigrants and the Americans. Indeed, their language is a way to be integrated and a majority of Hispanics don't speak english, the official language in the US. Moreover, the state makes numerous controls of the population to find the immigrants undocumented. With the flows of immigrations also settles down an illegal traffic of drugs.

In conclusion, the immigration belongs to the American history. Numerous immigrants come in United States to live « The American Dream » : To start from nothing and to succeed in his life. But there is a segregation in the American population, the immigrants are often isolated in communities and does't thus open to the American culture. The education and the schooling so play an important role, allowing the young immigrants to become of real American citizens. Sometimes seen as a problem and sometimes seen as a quality, the immigration stays at the heart of the American society.
