Synthèse Anglais

The idea of progress can be defined as an improvement, or a change, a technical scientific or social advance which contributes to making the world a better place. We will discuss global warming. What are the causes and consequences of global warming and how to fix it? Firstly, we will show the causes and the consequences of global warming and secondly, we will explain the solutions to solve these problems.

To begin, the causes of global warming are greenhouse gases emissions and more specifically carbon dioxide emitted for example by the circulation or generation of electricity. These gases prevent heat from escaping into space, increasing the temperature on the Earth's surface. First of all, the consequences of this rise in temperature are the melting of ice and snow, which causes a sea level rise that can cause flooding as can be seen in the text "Millions uprooted" of Scientific American: " are Making flood-prone areas worse "(l9). In some regions, temperature rises lead to droughts that force poor people in these countries to migrate to more developed countries as said in the text "Millions uprooted": 250 million people could be on the move by 2050. They will go because temperatures are rising and desertification has set in where rainfall is needed most"(l2-7). Global warming is also causing an increase in storms and fires, for example. These problems cause a lack of water in the countries of the South and Ecuador as we can notice it in the text "On the verge of disaster" of Suzanne Goldenberg : "California is on the verge of an epic drought [...] groundwater reserves so run down"(l7-9). Finally, global warming could threaten the lives of millions people in the world if we do nothing to try to stop or slow down it. But there are fortunately solutions as we will see it.

Indeed, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, we could increase the use of clean sources. This would slow down the temperature increase and limit the snow melting as well as the sea level increasing. According to the text "Climate migration fears misplaced" of Cecilia Tacoli, to help poor people, we could help the them to build defenses against storms and build homes to develop and fight global warming. We could "provide basic services"(l28), increase "the capacity of local governments and institutions"(l26-27). This would avail that these populations migrate and put in danger their lives. In addition, to solve the lack of water in warm countries, we could reduce the use of drinking water such as California in the text "On the verge of disaster?". These solutions would arrange all countries but they should be combined to fight against global warming.

To conclude, global warming is a current cause which poses and will continue to cause problem like natural disasters and climatic migration for example if we don't react. Fortunately, there are solutions, it would mainly need the richer countries to help the poorest countries in order to fight together against global warming.
