The report is from the NPR and is about the Team Academy. In fact, many students have to sacrifice their family life, holidays and academics to train for ski and snowboard competitions. They have to start skiing young to be competitive. That’s a reason why they drop school when they grow up. It is too difficult to deal with both studies and training. To prevent this, the skiing ans snowboarding association has created the Team Academy, a school where students can have normal classes and train in the same place. It is located in the Utah State, close to the slopes.

A young man, a freestyle aerial skier, studies poetry and littérature there, and had his first time placing in a competition thanks to this school. Team academy tuition fees are very expensive : 25 000$ per year. Fortunately, 36 students get financial aid.

This school is a normal school, stuent have a poetry and literatur class but, the schedule in this school is a little different from the others : the professors slow the pace before and during the competition so the students have time to train and rest. Moreover, there are several ways to study in the Team Academy, like one to one lessons, online sessions, homeschooling, and classic classes.

A 15 years old girl was homeschooled before she came to the Team Academy. Before this schuul, her parent try to teach her. Now she prefer to be there because she’s got companions, and it is « so cool », she says.

There are other ski and snowboard schools in the counrty, but the Team Academy is the only one ruled by the ski and snowboard governing body. And in that school, studies don’t matter as much as winning the competitions, the CEO says that they want the students to think about winning and not about trigonometry. He adds that winning is in the culture of the country so it is not bad to think this way.

Anyway, the Team Academy is really great for the athlete students because it helps them to live a more balanced life.
