Today I will introduce you to sports tourism and it’s four categories.

First, what is sport tourism?

Sports tourism is when people temporarily leave their homes to participate in a sport activity related to the discovery of a destination, but also to participate or attend an event, a competition.

There are several kinds of sports tourism like;

- Sports entertainment tourism:

the tourist is a spectator, travelling alone or in a group to attend a competition or sporting event. For example, the Olympics, the World Cup or Rolland Garros.

- Also banal sports tourism:

Banal sports tourism is linked to the visit of infrastructures. The tourist makes here the choice to go in mythical places, places that remind him of memorable memories such as the victory of his favorite team but he can also be a source of cultural enrichment like the discovery of the FIFA World Football Museum in Zurich, or the Olympic Museum in Lausanne.

- Then action sport tourism:

Action sport tourism brings together high-level amateurs or professionals who practice a sport during a trip. Faced with the challenge of a marathon or mobilized on a big competition, they are often accompanied by their relatives (spouse, coach...) who can also take advantage of the event to discover a destination.

- finally, discovery tourists around a sport:

Discovery tourism around a sport brings together all those who are physically active during their holidays. Hiking, climbing, skiing, diving, surfing, horse riding, golf etc.... They choose active stays by travelling on their own to selected destinations.

I will now talk about the economic and social consequences of sport tourism;

Major sporting events require investment in new sports buildings.

Often government or international sports organizations contribute some of that money. These investments also support the local economy to some extent, as these buildings will continue to be used after sporting events and may also be a tourist attraction. It can therefore be said that sporting events are part of a broader strategy aimed at increasing attractiveness as a tourist destination and then having economic and social benefits for cities.

In conclusion Sport tourism is a growing sector of the global travel industry, accounting for seven point sixty-eight billion dollars of all types of tourism. There are many classifications of sports tourism that allow to satisfy the populations.
