Notion espaces et échanges : the impact of money on different populations through movie clips

Space and Extange

I'm going to speak about the notion of space and extange.

This notion deals with the geographical and symbolic areas that all societies occupy and the interactions between men and different societies. Our world is built on the exploration and conquest of new spaces. The different cultural, economic, sociological and language interactions have shaped and characterised our modern-day world.

In class i worked on many documents about space and extange and today I will present the differences of cultures between generations in differents countries, and also the impact of money on different populations throught movie clips.

        The first documents who i'm speak about are called « first people » and there are series of picture. On the firste picture you can see an Aborigen. Aborigenes uses to lives in tribes, they use to urt to fid food. They were the first inhabitanats of Australia before colonization by british People in the 18th century, end of the 18th century due to the fact that british people were afraid to go that for, convicts, criminals and prostitutes were sent to Australia to colonize it.

 Aborigenal painting technique is to use points.

This musical instrument is typically aborigenal and is called a Didgeridoo. Aborigenes  belived in a dreamtime, the time of creation

On the second picture, there is a Maori. Maori peaople were the fisrt inhabitants of New Zeland which was also colonized by the british.

Maori people invented tattoos which tell you about their identity, their rank in society, their maturity, their experience in life.

Maori people also invented the Haka dance which is still used by rugby players: the All Black

On the last one picture, you can see the photo of a Native Americans. Native Américains  were the first inhabitants before the arrival of Christopher Colombus, the French, the British, and Spanish.

Native Americans used to live in teppes, in tribes, they used to hurt and to fish. They used to sing and dance a lot of rituals

They respected nature a lot more than setters. The Europeens hunted buffalos too much, they destroyed forests in order to urbanized the land. So Europeen setters started to take the Native territories and they ended up killing them all.

Nowadays Native Americans live réservations whiwh are closed territories ans tourists must pay to enter and visit. They get social benefits, they have the highest unemployment rate in the country, they are very often alcoholic and depressend? They commit suicid a lot, they are also addicted to pain killers

In my opinion, colonized people have lost: their traditions, their lands, their freedom, their territories, their language, their culture, … it is not a good thing.

My second document it's serie of movie clips which called « Frozen River » and realized by Courtney Hunt in 2008.

In an American village, on the border with Canada. When her husband, Troy, disappears with all their savings, Ray finds herself alone with her two sons, unable to pay for the house that would replace their caravan. She then meets Lila, a young single mother of Mohawk descent, who offers to smuggle illegal immigrants from Canada to the United States, crossing a frozen saint Laurence river between Quebec and New York State. Despite the risks, Ray agrees. Little by little, close bonds are forged between the white woman and her Native American partner.
