SEAT AND FORM OF POWER

intro: so im  going to talk about the notion of places and forms of power. first of all I would like to give a little definition of this notion. « Places » could be important buildings or institutions that represent a certain form of power, like for example the Elysée Palace a symbol of the power of France, or also the White house a symbol of the American presidency. A place can also be a country or a state for example the USA is a state which is powerful enough to influence events throughout the world (superpower). Power is the fact of doing things which have an influence like making decision for a president. It has different form like political, military and economical power. Power can be either positive or negative. It depends on who exerts it. This year in class we studied several documents about seats and forms of power. We are going to use those documents to illustrate our problems. So how power is used and In what ways can power be abused?

Firstly we will talk about forms of power and counterpowers and in a last time we will study abuses of power and counterpowers.

firstly we studied that there are places of power and peoples who are powerful. For example pentagon is one of the powerful places in the world because all the army decisions are taken in these place and we know of course that united states have the biggest army in the world and a big economy, not the best economy nowadays because china past them. we saw also some caricatures like one with Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, we understand that this caricature is create because those people want to be president of United states. In this caricature we see good with humor that people have an influence and can power over others. In an other domain steve jobs, person who created apple, is also a big powerful man because him company is one of the biggest in the world and the more influent. for finish with forms of power we will see powerful decisions that I think is the best domain of Forms of power because decisions have big impact in our life like the emancipation proclamation by Lincoln, Lincoln was president of the USA and was defending equality and freedom, he wanted to put an end to slavery. With this Emancipation proclamation he offered freedom forever to the slaves from rebelling states.

There is also forms of counterpowers like protest with fight for idea to change society and laws. We studied for example the famous situation of rosa parks, she was siting in the seat of the bus and the bus driver told her to move and stand up because a white man was standing up. she refused to stand up, so the driver called the police to arrest her. After that a wave of protest was born in USA to fight against racism. We saw in a cartoon 3 frames shaving people as symbols of the fight against racism and one of its biggest victory in the the first frame there was Rosa parks that we have talked about but in the two last there was martin Luther king, he was walking with people for contest the oppression. And in the last frame, there was a big character of the fight against racism , Barack Obama rejoicing in front of a happy crowd. A song of Billie Holiday describe well the horrible situation of black people at that time there is violent like bulging eyes and twisted mouth. In the song all the alliteration in « b » and « p » strengthens the abominable situation.  Art a good way to denounce thing like street art and Banksy with cctv camera he accuse the government to always keep an eye in all the citizens, he wants more liberty for all.
