Notion: The gothic literature
Introduction:
I'm going to talk about the second notion: The gothic literature .First of all, i would like to define what is the word « Gothic » and what is his link with litterature.
The term gothic came to be applied to the literary genre precisely because the genre dealt with such emotional extremes and dark themes, and because it found its most natural settings in the buildings of this style with castles, mansions and monasteries, often remote , crumbling and ruined.
So this style seems to be terrifying. Indeed we can ask ourselves why does Gothic litterature attract us?
To answer to this question i have choosen to talk about the chapter 2 from Dracula written by Bram Stoker in 1897 , an extract from The strange case of dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde written by Robert Louis Stevenson in 1886 and an engraving from the Brodoc chronicles which is my personnal document.
- A great diversity of feelings
1st document:
-presentation of Bram Stoker
1847-1912
-little summuary of the extract
-description and vocabulary use to describe the place and Dracula
-Writing style that integrates the reader closer of characters
-feelings of scary and darkness
2nd document:
-presentation of Robert Louis Stevenson
1850-1894
-little summuary
-the similarities and variance with gothic style
-Feeling of strange …
3rd document :
-Origine and context of Brodoc Chronicles
- description of the engraving
- little explication and what are the feeling after see that
- a style that echoes us
-1st document
The fear of the vampire who is omnipresent in the movie etc etc
fantasm about the aristocraties of this era
-2nd :
the conception of people / double personnality/good and evil in one people
-3st
the reality historic of Vlad III, Myth and reality
Conclusion:
so with all this reasoning we have responded to the problematic we have seen that for years and years the literatures and gothic creation in general attract us. Whether it is through the multiplicity of feelings or the echo that these stories transmit to us, this style attracts us because it makes vibrate in us new things stronger and strange to each other.
