Myths et heroes

Today i’m going to talk about the notion of myths and heroes. So, a myth is a lengendary story which’s based on some false ideas, which serves to bring community together. A heroe is someone that is figthing for a cause, a good humankind or just someone how is admired for his strenghts.

We’ll  wonder what symbolize the notion of myth and heroe

I will present this notion by focusing on two documents: an image of the statue of the Liberty and the video about coach Carter.

Firstable, i’m going to talk about image, caricature of the statue of the Liberty which is a symbol, an icon in America and in the world.

 The statue of the Liberty reprents the land of freedom, which was America during the 20th Century. Immigrants who come from Europe principally, arrived to Ellis Island. At this place, they were allowed to go in America or not. In this caricature, the statue is drinking a coca cola, an american’s brand which embodies the consumer society. She’s also eating a hamburger with Mickey Mouse and the Uncle Sam.  Those 3 things are symbols of America. The hamburger is THE symbol of food in America, Mickey Mouse is the caricatur of the film industry and Uncle Sam is a caricature of America himself. We can also see a cow boy, who is shooting in the air, he sumbolizes the Far west, and the culture around guns in America.

This document illustrates an aspect of the notion by showing that myths were first created to bring people together, make dream people and creat a culture in the country and export it around the world.

In the mythologie, an hero was a powerfull man, with strength like a warrior. But today, a hero can be someone that’s doing everything to help people. We can show this by the document about Coach Carter. This man is coaching a basket ball team in a high school with a low rate of success at the exams. His players aren’t really good at school and the only things that can help the mis basket ball, because in there town, they have a big chance to fall in a crime organisation and finish their life in jail. That’s why he wants to force them to work because it’s important. He promise them that he will do anything to bring them in college. This man is a modern hero because he helps the futur. He helps teenagers, he wants to escape them to a bad life that awaits them.

This documents shows an aspect of a modern hero. Not o powerfull man, but someone like evryone who help the society, help people to have a better life and he is doing this totally free.

To conclude, I think tgat tge concept of myths and heroes has an important place in the modern society. The notion of hero changed with the time. The symbols of America are myths because they bring a community together, for many people myths are indeed use to make dream people, and like a modern hero, give them hope for a better life, and achieve their goals.
