The document is the chapter IV of the novel Persuasion, written in 1818 by the famous writer Jane Austen. The document B, The Guardian online has been written by Sonia Sodha, on the 13th of August 2017. The last document, the C, is a painting that E. B. Leighton painted on 1892.
How are the documents indicating the differences social background, and that the society preclude certain love experience?
The set of documents deals with, in a first time, the differences between the backgrounds and in a second time, the meetings that are forbidden, disagree, because of the society.
Meetings usually includes to meet someone new, sometimes issues from another background, the differences between them are particularly visible.
To start, we can see thanks precise details, in the documents, that the main characters are from different social backgrounds. In the document A, Anne Elliot, a girl from a rich family wants to engage with the Captain Wentworth who’s from another social background, but the girl’s family disagree. In regards to the document C, it’s the representation of a disapproved encounter with a high-ranking girl and a less wealthy man. Similarly, Anne Elliot in the document A, and the woman in the document C, are both the representation of wealth. Indeed, the first one is from a wealthy family and we can see by the woman’s outfit that she’s rich: she wears an elegant dress with nice shoes, a pretty hat and a purse. About the document B, it’s the result of an experiment to demonstrate that mostly, people with same social background end their life together. By the way, the Calvin Klein model presents in the document B also embodies the richness.
On the other hand, the Captain Wentworth, in the document A, who’s not rich “he had no fortune” without be poor is not with a secure money situation. In the same way, there are the social charity worker who’s in relationship with the Calvin Klein model and the man in the background of the canvas. Likewise, these dissimilarities are perfectly represented by the experience of the TVshow in the document B, which demonstrated that it’s possible that unlikely pairs about different social background appears, at least in the television show, but in the real life, it’s more complicated. Actually, there’s an increasing of people that settle down with someone from the same background. Whereas the possibility of meet someone from an other caste, the parents, the entourage, actually the society disagree it.
While encounters can take place on any street corner, society continues to interfere.
On the one hand, the document B highlight that the actual education system put in place by the society has to do more to improve social mobility: since the youngest age, the differences between social background are marked. We know that rich people care a lot about it. Same, the document C lays stress on : by the girl’s wary expression, the key in one of his hand, and the man waiting behind the door we feel that she knows about the forbidden meeting she's having right now.
