Idea of progress

I am going to talk about the idea of progress, first of all I would like to give a definition:

idea of progress:  is an  improvement, a development or a change ( technical, scientific or social advance) whitch contributes to making the world a better place.

Key  question:  Why is india said to be a country of contradiction?

- In one hand  india is a country with deeply-rooted tradition, and in the other hand how india can be see as a modern country?

I) India a country with deeply-rooted traditions:

  • First, in fact cast is not past in India, the population is separated in different group of citizens. called " caste". The highest and the more powerful caste is the Bramhans and the lowest caste is the Shudras there are 4 castes, and there is a group of people named " untouchables" or " dalits". They are outcastes, they generally  do the hardest job and they have very few money they are ostracized. The caste system is still very present in rural areas
  • Besides the dowry traditions continues even if India has outlawed dowries in 1961 the practice remains rempants. A dowry is a a waste of money that the bride's family has to pay to the groom's family when she gets married.
  • Finally India's girls go missing: India is becoming an increasing male-dominated society. Indian families prefer having sons than daughters due to the dowry. It's for that thousands of pregnant women when they know the sex of baby , abortif it's a baby girl. There are twice as many boys as girl in some villages in India, it's an example of gendercide.

II) India  a country on the move:

  •  To begin with  India  we can say that economic progress is undeniable.

A country on the march: population is growing every year: 1.2 billion peoples in India in 2014.

Economic boom " Indian Tiger : different sector of activity: agriculture: service: technology

many different religions: hindu, english, muslims, christian, and different languages: hindu, english, bengali

  •  Then in India there is an high tech cities: Bangalore.

Withs bangalore India is a country of technological progress. Is one of the 25 high tech cities in the world. In Bangalore  we can see a lot of skyscrapers , modern building. Bangalore is the Indian silicon Valley. A lot of European an US companies have settled in the city.

  • Furthemore India is a country of progress with Bollywood, Indian specificals movies with dances, musicals romances. Bollywood and power= indian culture: spicy food  or Diwali a festival of lights celebrated in India and around the world. Or yoga and indian medicine.

Taj mahal one of seven wonders of the world= tourism: 8 million of tourist every year. India is a country of progress

Conclusion: To conclude we can see a real contraditions between modernity and traditions in India.
