   Los Angeles is the second most populous city in the United States after New York. It is located in the south of the state of California, on the Pacific coast. According to an estimate, the population of the town is 3 976 322 inhabitants in 2016, whereas it was only 11 500 in 1887. The county has a population of 10,179,716 (in July 2004), while Los Angeles has an urban area of ​​approximately 18.5 million3, making it the second largest urban area in the United States after New York.
