India is a country considered a great economic, cultural power with its 21 languages spoken and rich in natural resources. It is the second most populous country in the world after China with more than a billion inhabitants. India has one of the seven wonders of the world : the Taj Mahal. It is an example of a country that has seen progress, which is an evolution and development that improves the lives of human beings. We can wonder what the consequences of progress are for the population and for the country.

The progress made by India has resulted in various consequences for the population and the country. To begin with, despite the inequalities between the poorest and the richest who remain present, progress has improved the well-being of many of the country’s inhabitants. It has been able to provide more jobs and reduce its poverty.

Moreover, the consequences for the country have been enormous. Since its independence in 1947, India has integrated its economy into globalization. In fact, it has become a country that exchanges a lot of goods with other countries such as China, the United States or France. These exchanges made it possible to increase its economic growth and thus become a Great Power. Thanks to the opening of its economy in the world, the inhabitants of the country were able to buy a vehicle to move, a television, appliances… It has improved their standard of living.

On the other hand, the consequences of progress can be negative. Indeed, they can bring environmental problems, such as an article by Gardiner Harris in 2012 entitled “As India’s economy grows, so does its garbage,” he explains that with progress, there are more people in the area and therefore more garbage because the inhabitants do not sort them. They dump the garbage in empty spaces. This leads to air pollution and water pollution and therefore to disease.

To conclude, thanks to its progress, India has become a powerful country with many consequences for the population and for the country. These consequences are positive, such as the improvement of the living standards of the inhabitants and the growth of the country, but they can also be negative, such as pollution and garbage, which is growing more and more. But is India a real example of beneficial progress for its country ?
