I am going to speak to you about the notion of spaces and exchanges. We can define an exchange as a continous movement, or circulation in one or more spaces. To illustrate this notion i have chosen to focus on immigration of mexican in the us. What is the role and place of Mexican immigrants in the US society ?

To answer i want to show first the condition of mexican in the usa and show secondly the fact that immigrants play a important rôle in the economi of a country.

The conditions of the immigrants are not  good. For example, in the extract of the book The Tortilla Curtain, we face two clandestin characters, América and Candido, who have a miserable life. This text tells us the story of Candido, a Mexican clandestine who lives in California with his partner América and we learn the difficulties of immigrants to integrate  a country that doens't want them. We find a two-tier society  with opposition , for exemple in the same city there are house for rich people and a bad neighborhood deserted where we see a big poverty. Candido and america 's conditions are difficult, they earn  few dollars with an uncomfortable job and a hard-face boss (patron dur).they are separated from their families and don't speak English. we can think that this situation is similar for most immigrants. We can then say that the condition of the Mexican immigrant are bad in the USA, those people who leave their land for a better life are not really rewarded. So that's the bad part of the exchange.

however we will see that Mexican immigrants are important in the economy of the USA

The cartoon made by Joe Heller shows immigrants working and saying « Im just doing the job that you won't do » The job they do are cleaner, butcher, gardener, fruit picker, these jobs don't require skill or talent but they are necessary. In the end we see oncle sam who represents the american governmet. he's holding a paper that means he wants to stop immigration but it is paradoxical because the migrants make important and painful work

Furthermore in the document "a day without a Mexican" we can say that Mexican are Essential in the Usa. For exemple without Mexican  : The agriculture and the construction sector woud be affected, The service industry would collapse because a majority of mexican work in these sector . People have a stereotyped images of the mexican workers, seeing them as an uneducated peasant. But in fact, nearly 4000(Four thousand) Mexicans have doctorate. Immigrants have enriched American culture and enhanced it's influence in the world : In fact, the Immigrants contribute to the United States’ international competitiveness and its leading position in the world.

So to conclude, Mexicans who live in poor living conditions  are subject to stereotypes that devalue them, Yet, as we have seen, they are necessary to the US economy. It should change the image that Americans have of them to improve their place in society.

Paradoxically, the migrants which contributes to the American economy are not really accepted by the US government

Here, the exchange is not fair.
