Myths and heroes.
Gerard Way said once that heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary.
A hero is someone who is admired for his courage and outstanding qualities. His acts of heroism can be conveyed through shows, art, music, poetry, politics, etc. Some heroes can be real or imaginary, they can become myths.
But to me, a true hero isn't measured by the size of his strength/power/fame/wealth, etc, but by the strength of his heart/acts/commitments, etc.
So, we may wonder, how can an ordinary person make the world a better place and thus become a hero ?
First of all, I'd like to say that according to Joseph Campbell, a hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than him/herself. And it's true. By standing up against society, by making speeches and by writing books some people dedicated all their life to help the others and change the world.
In today’s society, people with physical or mental impairments have amazing opportunities to live their life to the fullest. However, life was very different for such individuals as Helen Keller. Born in the late nineteenth century, she soon became both blind and deaf. Despite her extremely limiting disabilities, she learned through hard work and perseverance. She used her struggle to inspire disadvantaged men and women and to influence changes in the way they are treated. Her passionate fight to be heard cemented her place among the world’s more empowering heroes.
Helen Keller is a hero because even though she was different from others, she had a positive impact and had a huge influence on people not only with disabilities like her, but also on society. She always lived by the motto that if you try hard enough, you will be able to get what you want. Helen is a hero to me because she was persistent, courageous, and inspiring. She demonstrated these qualities in very obvious ways throughout her life and never asked anything in return. Dedicated her whole life to make the others’ life better

As well, I also consider Malala Yousafzai as the heroine of our time. Indeed, we know that she marked her 16th birthday by delivering a speech at the United Nations in NYC to speak up about her campaign for girls’ rights and above all the right of education for every child.
On that day, she was standing before a lot of important politicians. But she wasn't there to speak for herself but for those whose voice couldn’t be heard. She reminded the assembly that when Talibans shot her and her friends on their way to school in her home country, Pakistan, it was meant to silence her but it failed. Nothing changed in her life, only fear, weakness, and hopelessness disappeared to let place/give way to strength, power and courage.
Also, her famous quote ‘the pen is mightier than the sword’ acknowledges that we often think violence (‘the sword’) is a source of strength. But, this proverb states, it is actually the art of writing that is stronger.
By fighting for the education of every child, every girl in particular, Malala tries to ensure liberty for each of them. Her campaign is all the more important when we know that freedom is necessary to live in good conditions in society. But it could also help to reach happiness.
Moreover, she has many qualities as being pacific, altruistic, mature, courageous, and over and above, she fights for her ideals. These qualities are characteristic of a hero.
In a nutshell, this speech is an impressive message of hope and peace to the world.
